What
is Arsenic?
Arsenic
is part of the earth's crust and is a naturally occurring element
found in rocks, soil, water and air. It is both odorless and tasteless.
The
most common natural sources of arsenic exposure to humans are
through the consumption of food, water and air. People can also
be exposed from a variety of industrial and agricultural sources.
Higher levels of arsenic are typically found more in ground water
than in surface water sources of drinking water.
Prolonged
exposure to very low levels of arsenic can cause several types
of cancer, as well as numerous other serious, but non-cancerous
health problems.
