What
is Iron & Manganese?
Iron and manganese are common
metallic elements found in the earth's crust. Both are troublesome,
have comparable chemical properties, and cause similar problems
in water.
Iron is one of our most plentiful
resources, making up at least 5% of the earth's crust. Manganese
is naturally occuring in ground and surface water and in soils
that may erode into these source.
Deposits of iron and manganese
build up in pipelines, tanks, water heaters and softeners which
constrict the water supply, and also cause red-brown or brownish-black
stains on laundry, fixtures and tableware which are very difficult
to remove.
